This grape variety probably originates from a seed. Alphonse Lavallée is grown for table grapes all over the world: France, Spain, Italy, Portugal, Rumania, Moldova, Ukraine, Russia, United States, Argentina, Chile, and Peru. It is vigorous and prolific. It is, however, relatively fragile and suffers from poor fruit set and shot berries. It is susceptible to downy mildew, powdery mildew, dead-arm disease, and spring frosts, due to its very early bud break. It produces large bunches and grapes. Alphonse-Lavallée is a superb table grape, although it has rather thick skin and is sometimes lacking in flavor. |
