Bourboulenc
is thought to originate from Provence. It is cultivated in Provence and
Languedoc. It is a hardy grape variety with an extremely long vegetative
cycle, as bud-break occurs a few days after that of Chasselas and the
grapes ripen in the third period, i.e. four and a half weeks after Chasselas.
It is, therefore, only suitable for very hot areas with good sun exposure.
It is also highly drought resistant but susceptible to powdery mildew.
Its bunches are large, with medium-sized grapes. This variety produces
fine, light wines, with floral aromas, that are often used in blends. |
