Cabernet Franc is mainly grown in France, especially Bordeaux and the Loire Valley. Italy has a few thousand hectares and smaller quantities are produced in California, Chile, Argentina, Brazil, South Africa, and Australia. This rather late grape variety produces low yields and needs to be pruned long. It is a delicate grape variety, susceptible to wood diseases and fungi. Cabernet Franc produces small bunches and grapes. It gives very aromatic wines, with red-berry (raspberry) and floral (violet) aromas. Cabernet Franc wines are enjoyable when young but can also be barrel-aged to enhance their aging potential. |
