This
grape variety probably originates from Switzerland. It is grown internationally,
not only in Switzerland and Germany but also in most Mediterranean countries,
Eastern Europe, California, and Chile. Chasselas is susceptible to poor
fruit set and shot berries, as well as several diseases: downy mildew,
powdery mildew, dead-arm disease, and eutypa dieback. It may also suffer
from magnesium deficiency. It has medium-sized bunches with relatively
large grapes. Chasselas is an excellent table grape. It also produces
light, slightly acidic white wines with a relatively neutral flavor. |
