This grape variety is probably originally from the Gaillac area in southwest France. Mauzac is mainly grown in Gaillac and Limoux, where it is used in the blend for the famous Blanquette. Mauzac is high-yielding and should be pruned short. This grape variety is sensitive to mites, dead-arm disease, and gray rot. It has medium-sized bunches and grapes. Mauzac produces several types of white wines: dry, sweet, and sparkling. Mauzac can reach high sugar levels when it is overripe, but tends to lose acidity. Mauzac wines are very pleasant to drink, with a distinctive apple aroma.
