The origins of this grape variety are unknown. Muscat de Hambourg is grown in France, Italy, Greece, and Portugal, as well as parts of eastern Europe and South America. This grape variety is vigorous and needs good sun exposure. It is susceptible to poor fruit set and shot berries as well as several diseases and pests, including powdery mildew, downy mildew, dead-arm disease, mites, and grape caterpillars. It has large bunches and grapes. It is cultivated for table grapes and fruit juice. It may also be used for still or sparkling wines. Muscat de Hambourg produces magnificent bunches that keep very well during shipment. The grapes have a slightly "muscat" flavor.
