This grape variety was developed by Moreau-Robert
in Angers in the Loire Valley. In France, it is grown in Alsace. It ripens
early so it is useful in cooler climates, such as Austria, Hungary, Yugoslavia,
Bulgaria, Rumania, Moldova, Ukraine, and Russia. It is particularly susceptible
to poor fruit set, downy mildew, powdery mildew, and gray rot. Bunches
and grapes are uneven in size. Like the other Muscat varieties, Muscat
Ottonel has a high sugar potential and produces subtly aromatic dry or
sweet white wines. |
