Synonym: Sangiovèse This
grape variety is originally from Tuscany, Italy. France, it is grown
in Corsica. It is one of the most prestigious Italian grape varieties
and is responsible for the reputation of Tuscan wines. It is also grown
in California, Argentina, Brazil, and Australia. Sangiovèse has
early bud-break. This vigorous variety must be pruned short. It is particularly
susceptible to flavescence dorée. Bunches are medium-sized with
relatively large grapes. Sangiovèse wines are excellent quality,
provided yields are kept small. They are fruity when young and develop
spicy aromas during aging in oak, retaining good structure. This variety
also produces excellent rosé wines. |
