This grape variety originally came from the Saumur area in the Loire Valley. Pineau d’Aunis was very popular with the nobility in the 13th to 15th centuries. Although it is fertile and vigorous, Pineau d’Aunis produces very irregular yields. It is susceptible to chlorosis and gray rot. It has medium-sized bunches with small grapes. Pineau d’Aunis wines are light and fruity. They have good quality potential and may reach alcohol levels up to 13°C. Pineau d'Aunis is also used for sparkling wine production. |
