This grape variety is related to Pinot Noir. It is one of the three grape varieties used in Champagne. It is also cultivated in Germany. Its late bud break makes it resistant to winter and spring frosts and it is very well-suited to the limestone terroirs in Champagne. It is susceptible to gray rot and grape caterpillars. Long pruning makes Pinot Meunier very prolific, in spite of its small bunches and grapes. Its wines have medium acidity and are exclusively used to make sparkling wines. |
