This
grape variety originated from Languedoc. There are also gray and black
variants of this grape variety. In France, it is mainly cultivated in
the Hérault to make AOC Picpoul de Pinet. Piquepoul Blanc is also
grown in northern Spain, especially Catalonia. Piquepoul Blanc is a late-ripening
grape variety so it requires a hot climate and good sun exposure. This
grape variety is high-yielding, so it is generally pruned short. It is
susceptible to gray rot, powdery mildew, and bud mite disease. The bunches
are large, with medium-sized grapes. Wines made from Piquepoul Blanc are
often very pale in color with herbaceous aromas. They are usually dry,
lively, and very pleasant to drink - ideal with seafood from the nearby
Mediterranean. |
