This grape variety is originally from Corsica and is still mainly cultivated on the island. It requires a hot, dry climate and moderate pruning to produce high quality red wines. Sciaccarello is relatively resistant to vine diseases and pests. It has very large bunches and grapes. Sciaccarello wines are full-bodied and very aromatic, reflecting the high sugar and acidity levels in the grapes. They sometime lack color, so they are also very suitable for making rosé or blended wines. |
